This year the National Cancer Institute estimates that 192,370 American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Nearly 40% of those are predicted to die from the disease. The severity of breast cancer is strongly influenced by the stage of the disease. If detected early, the survival rate is 98% and mammograms play a vital role.

Road to Recovery
On Sept. 22, 1996, I was a fairly healthy 24-year-old, but at about 9:15 p.m. my life nearly ended. A car driven by a drunk driver struck me. As a result, I suffered multiple injuries. My jaws were broken with a dozen fractures, my nose, collarbone, ribs, and left leg — all broken. Upon arrival at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, I was given just three hours to live. However, through the grace of God and with shear determination I was able to begin a path to recovery that has proven miraculous.

The 5 Steps to you Stepping on Stage!
Last month, we discussed “sticking to the plan” in the “A” Action phase of the Transtheoretical Mode (TTM) of thinking outlined in Part One. After sticking to my contest preparation plan for months, I will be stepping on my first national stage (Junior Nationals) in a few days. Although my original plan did not call for slicing my hand open and having to have seven stitches, I was back in the gym the following day accepting and adjusting to my new approach.

Last month, we discussed “sticking to it” in the “P” Preparation phase of the Transtheoretical Mode (TTM) of thinking outlined in Part One. Since then, I’ve been “sticking” to the plan myself. What have I been doing? Preparing myself for June 19th by means of the “A” Action phase. This will be the day when all hard work is revealed.
